3 months before I left South Korea, I decided to go in for a consultation. From the consultation to the procedure and after care, the doctors at Gangnam EyeMedi were very courteous and made me feel safe. They explained the result of my eye exams (near/farsightedness, astigmatism, cornea thickness, eye moisture, etc) and explained what procedures were best for my eyes. Because I was leaving the country within 6 months, they recommended the LASEK treatment. They explained what they do during the procedure and what the risks were and what recovery would look like. They spoke in English to me and answered all of my questions patiently.
On the day of the procedure, the doctors explained the process to me and what I would experience. I was nervous, but I also knew what to expect, which helped ease my anxiety.
The first week after the procedure, I couldn't see very well at all. However, I continued to put in the medicinal drops and avoided bright lights. It helped that I had a week off from work for the lunar new year holidays.
My eyesight continued to improve and I did not experience further irritation after the first week. My eyes would get dry in the mornings and evenings, but even that has improved a lot. I went in for monthly checkups while in Korea.
Four months on, my eyesight is great and I am so glad I had this surgery. I still wear sunglasses in direct sunlight and use eyedrops to combat dryness in the mornings, but I know this will continue to improve. The doctors gave me drops to use in the states, and they have checked in on me via email as well. Although I can pursue continued checkups through local doctors, I have not needed to.
My experience with Gangnam EyeMedi center has been great and I highly recommend them to anyone looking to get lasik/lasek.
